Benitez May Sell Ryan Babel

Contrary to what you might have read elsewhere, Rafael Benitez has refused to rule out selling Ryan Babel.

“He has to work hard. He’s our player and he will have his chances. At this moment we are not trying to sell him.

Suffice to say, if Benitez is willing to sell Robbie Keane half a season after spending £18m, letting go of Babel after three years of underachievement for money that he could spend on another winger he could spoil would be too tempting.

No manager rules out a sale by saying “At this moment we are not trying to sell him”. They rule it out by saying, “we are not going to be selling him”. Shame the BBC can’t spot the distinction.
