How Do You Solve a Problem Like Craig Bellamy?

Simple; sell him. At least that has been the solution of six managers so far. What is incredible is that £31m has been spent on a player who falls out so easily with his managers and move on so quickly that he makes Carlos Tevez look like he’s at Upton Park for the long-haul.

Explosive acceleration, decent finishing, good dribbling and not without creativity, Bellamy’s best play came at Newcastle when he partnered the ageing Alan Shearer. That didn’t last. Bellamy’s most stable environment was at Blackburn Rovers under Mark Hughes – probably the only person Bellamy might think twice about insulting. But he showed a clear ignorance for what was best for him by signing for Liverpool – a move he never even remotely merited – and without the stern hand of Hughes, became yet another of Rafa Benitez’ poor buys.

So he’s ended up at West Ham where Alan Curbishley’s famed man-management skills will no doubt fail where everyone else has. Bellamy’s best move would have been back in to the welcoming arms of Hughes at Blackburn. But he chose money, like practically any player West Ham will now sign and without doubt it will not be long before he is back on the move and another manager spews rubbish about being able to ‘bring the best out of him’.
